    • The obituary as published in the Mountain Eagle on 23 Jun 1938:

ANOTHER OF THE OLD TIME LETCHER CITIZENS ANSWERS LAST CALL.
In the early morning of Tuesday of this week at his old home on Pine Creek, the long earthly pilgrimage of Elder Ben Jackson Adams came to a peaceful close. He was 82 years of age and was the son of Eld. Simpson and Sallie Webb Adams. He was born April 3, 1856.
His ancestors were of the hardy stock that first settled here. His father being the son of William G. (Billy Grit) Adams and his mother daughter of Benjamin Webb, which made him related to practically all the native families of this county. He carried with him through life the faith of his forebearers and was a gentleman and citizen of our highest type. He lived close to his family and loved them all dearly.
Early in life he was married to Elizabeth Craft, who with one little son had preceded him in death, the following children are left to regret his passing: Nancy Polly, Watson, Sallie Kincer and Dewey, all of Haywood; S. E. Adams of Fleming; Bill of Frankfort; Henry, Charley, Delsie Kincer of Mayking, Clabe of Jenkins, and Betsy Craft also of Mayking.
Thirty-two years ago this month following the pattern of his father, mother and his people, he became a member of the Thornton Regular Baptist Church and was baptized by Elder John Riggs and was soon ordained as a deacon and later on Elder in that church. He lived the life and was faithful. Never missed his church meetings and oft times in the pulpit, at home and in the nearby neighborhoods he told neighbors and friends of the life beyond and urged that all would make peace with God. Eld. Ben Jackson Adams deserves to be eulogized but he needs more. He has written his own in the wonderful christian life that he lived. He made the teachings of the Saviour hos pattern and when at the end of the way, the Master called for him, he could look up and extending his arm heavenward fall peacefully asleep. He repeated time and again that there was nothing in his way and today he has won another victory and is at home at last.
Funeral services were held at the schoolhouse near his home on Wednesday evening, June 29, by Elders Elzy Kiser, Conley Adams and G. Bennett Adams, and in the presence of hundreds of his people he was laid to rest in the family cemetery nearby. Burke Funeral Home had charge of the funeral arrangements.

May the breezes blow softly on the
      hill where he sleeps,
And the snows of winter lie light on
      his grave,
And the birds sing their sweetest in
      the tree tops above,
Till the morning breaketh and the
      shadows flee away.
