    • Mary Ruth Phipps tells this about her mom and dad.

My dad, J. B. Phipps told me about my mom.
They met in December and had their first date on Christmas day of
1914. My mother had turned 13 yrs old on the 21st of December. They
      saw
each other every saturday except for one until they got married on
December 2, 1915 which was three weeks before my mother turned 14 yrs
old. The Saturday that they had missed seeing each other was because
      my
dad's brother-in-law, Joseph Robert Stanley, had borrowed my dad's
horse and had not returned it in time for him to get to see her. He
      said
that was the longest week of his life. He also said that he would
      have
waited until she was a year older but he was afraid that her brothers
Nelson and Glenn would beat her to death. Dad sait that they were
terribly mean to her and he said that he had made up his mind that
      when
they got married that no one else wold ever be mean to her again and
      he
really ment it. Dad was so kind and compassionate . My mother adored
him and treated him like a king and raised us to feel the same way.
      She
made me feel like it was an honor to polish his shoes. She raised us
children to love each other. She would say "love each other while you
are all together, some day all you will have is memories". I am so
      glad
she did that because I have so many, many happy memories. My
      grandmother
Fleming often said that my dad was better to her then her own sons
      were,
he loved her. My grand mother was a special Person. She had the
      ability
to make each of her grand children feel they were her favorite
      grandchild
and that takes some doing. She really built happy memories for me. I
really loved Alice Pearl. She could tell the most amazing stories and
she could sing like a bird. I always thought she was beautiful.
I don't know if you ever knew that my mother kept Betty and Nettie
and the three of us nursed my mothers breasts untill they were old
      enough
to be weaned. They were a month and two days older then me.(MRP)

I have been to aunt Alta's grandma Rose Ann's, grandpa Garn's,
uncle Grady's, and aunt Venia's grave site at the old Mullins
      cemetary,
now called the Farmer cemetary, on mountain road off of Brush Creek

Many thanks to Hester Swindall who was kind enough to guide us. (LTF)
