John COX was a Captain during the Revolutionary War and was stationed at Fort Chiswell, Virginia. His son, James COX, served under him at one time. After the war, Captain COX returned to Ashe County, North Carolina, where he owned several thousand acres of land. Land is shown to have been bought in Wilkes County, North Carolina. John COX died about 1818 in Ashe County, North Carolina. There is said to be a monument on his farm with his War Record inscribed on it, and his wife's name as Margaret DaviS, birth and death unknown.
