Notes: After marriage, Dow farmed until 1936 when he took over the
store which his father started at the forks of Dry Creek. His brother
"Dabber" had been operating the store for some years. In 1938 Dow and
Annie moved to Buckingham (Bevinsville) (Floyd Co.) and operated a
general store there until 1942. At that time, they moved to Keavy
(Laurel Co.), KY, near Dow's brother Crit, and farmed for two years. In
1944 they moved to Lancer (near Prestonsburg) (Floyd Co.), KY and
operated a general store for a short time. Later in 1944 they moved to
Adams (Lawrence Co.), KY where Dow farmed and then was a rural mail
carrier 1948-52. They remained in Lawrence Co. the rest of their lives.
The Children of Dow Cook and Annie Hall were:
1. Earl Cook, b.3/8/1924 at Dry Creek, KY; m.11/14/1945 at Louisa,
KY to Mary Malinda Maxwell, b.7/7/1925; dau. of Willie Howard Maxwell and
Sarah Emmaline Tucker. After the family moved to Buckingham in 1938,
Earl attended Wheelwright High School until March, 1943 when he dropped
out to join the navy. He was discharged from the Navy 2/5/1946 then
joined the U. S. Air Corps 2/12/1946-2/12/1947. After discharge from the
Air Corps, Earl went to work in a Stove factory in Cincinnati, OH until
Thanksgiving, 1948 when he and Mary moved to Adams, KY (Lawrence Co.)
Mary worked at Crosley's in Cincinnati 1943-1948 making radar equipment
for the Navy. After their move to Adams, Earl farmed til 1953, taught
school 1953-1960, sold Progressive Farmer magazine 1960-1961, then served
as postmaster 6/30/1961-4/1/1984. In conjuction with the postmaster
position, Earl operated a country store from 7/10/1964-11/20/1983. He
retired 4/1/1984. Mary worked for the Northeast Area Development Council
3/3/1975-5/10/1982 as a rural transportation bus driver. She gave up the
