“Charles L. Duty, Lifetime Resident Of Ragland Dies


Charles L. Duty, 71, retired farmer and lifetime resident of Ragland, died at 12:45 a. m. Sunday in the local hospital. He had been ill two days and death was attributed to infirmities of age.
Mr. Duty was born on June 3, 1876, a son of the late Harrison J. and Sarah Ann (Romans) Duty. His parents were early settlers in the Ragland section and at one time owned all the land on the Rockhouse fork of Pigeon creek.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and the husband of Susan Hall Duty, whom he married 33 years ago.
Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Mrs. Nancy Jane Ferrell, Mrs. Alice Cisco, and Mrs. Minnie Griffey, all of Ragland, and Mrs. Ocie Mahon, of Lincoln City; four sons, Arnold Lee, Alfred, Robert, and Wallace Duty of Ragland; one stepson, James Runyon, of Ragland; 13 grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Sallie Ann Curry, of Elk creek; and two brothers, George and Alex Duty, of Pigeon creek.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 tomorrow at the home of a son-in-law, Cecil Griffey, of Ragland. John Deskins and Vernon Mullins will officiate and burial will follow in the Duty cemetery at Ragland.”

"Mrs. Susan Duty, 81, of Ragland, died at 7 p. m. Monday in the local Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1893 at Myrtle, she was the daughter of the late LEANDER and NANCY WHITE HALL and was a life-long resident of Ragland.
She was preceded in death by her husband CHARLES DUTY and was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by nine children, James Runyon of Ragland, Nancy Jane Ferrell of Massillon, Ohio, Sally Young of Columbus, Ohio, Alice Cisco, Minnie Griffey, both of Ragland, Arnold Lee Duty, Wallace Duty, and Alfred Duty all of Columbus, and Robert Duty of Ragland, and one brother, John Lee Hall of Elk Creek.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Wednesday at the Caney Creek Church of Christ with the Rev. Vernon Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at the Duty family cemetery in Ragland.
Friends may call at the Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton after 3 p. m. today."

Born Dec. 25, 1915, at Ragland, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Susan Hall Duty. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, William T. Ferrell, of Massillon; three daughters, Mrs. Verna Mae Griffey, of Ragland, and Ms. Susie Magyar and Mrs. Ocie Green, both of Massillon; six sons, Sidney L., Charles W., and John B. Ferrell all of Massillon, Tommy Ferrell of Canal Fulton, O., Chandis E. Ferrell of Beach City, O., and Carew Ferrell of Chauncey; three sisters, Mrs. Barney Cisco and Mrs. Cecil Griffey, both of Ragland, and Mrs. Ocie Young of Columbus, O.; four brothers, Arnold, Alfred, Robert and Wallace Duty, all of Columbus; and one half brother, James Runyon, of Ragland; 22 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The body is at the Gordon-Shaidnagle-Hollinger Funeral Home is Massillon, where services will be held this evening at 8 o'clock.
The body will be removed to the Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton Tuesday, where friends may call after 7 p. m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Chauncey Church of Christ at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Burial will follow in the Duty cemetery at Ragland, under the direction of the Chafin Funeral Home."
