AKERS, Carmel Lee Author of Halls of Muddy Creek, age, 74, of Grethel, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg. He was born October 23, 1932 in Grethel, the son of the late Amos Akers and Stella Hall Akers. He was a retired school teacher and author. He was a member of the Church of Christ, the Retired Teacher Association, Pikeville Historical Society, and the Betsy Layne Senior Citizens. Survivors include a brother, Donald Akers of New London, Ohio; and two sisters: Virginia Mae Case of Grethel, and Nickie Hall of Harold. Preceding him in death were his parents, and two brothers, Ijellan Akers and Arvil Dwight Akers. Funeral services for Carmel Lee Akers will be conducted Friday, October 27, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin. Burial will follow in the Lee Alley Cemetery, in Grethel, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home. (FCT'S 10-27-2006)
